Why Do Server Rooms Need to Be Routinely Cleaned?

Although server rooms may appear relatively clean at first glance, it is imperative to regularly clean your data center due to the detrimental impact of dust and debris.

Particles such as dust, dirt, skin cells, clothing fibers, zinc, and metal can accumulate on your servers, computers, and cabling. Another source of concern is particles released when cooling system belts degrade.

About 80% of these particles enter the data center via shoe soles, underscoring the importance of minimizing foot traffic in these areas as a preventive measure. Despite being airborne and often invisible to the human eye, these particles amass over time and can lead to a significant rise in hardware temperature, potentially up to 30℉. Such temperature spikes can trigger widespread device failures, resulting in downtime and data loss.

Furthermore, aside from posing a threat to hardware, unclean data centers present a fire hazard. The combination of dust accumulation and static electricity can ignite fires, leading to catastrophic business losses.
